AWARENESS AND TRAINING ACTIONS FOR PRODUCERS ON THE QUALITY OF SEED COTTON

The Agricultural Production Department (DPA) of Ivoire Coton undertakes each campaign, awareness-raising and training actions for producers on the quality of seed cotton. These awareness-raising actions take place upstream along the technical route of the cotton plant and also concern post-harvest operations. Quality seed cotton is better paid and allows the cotton industry to make better use of the fiber produced.

Following the technical route of the cotton plant is a sine qua non condition for producing quality seed cotton. Indeed, producers must carry out insecticide treatments as recommended by the treatment schedule. In addition, producers are required to carry out a split harvest, carefully managed, while avoiding foreign bodies. To do this, they can refer to the samples compiled by the DPA for this purpose. The harvest must be well sorted and dried before being placed in airtight and ventilated storage silos.

In the cotton market in the villages, purchasing teams organize cotton into homogeneous lots to avoid two different qualities of cotton being loaded together. The collection of seed cotton after weighing is done by trucks while avoiding foreign bodies, in particular polypropylene and mosquito nets.

Ivoire Coton has also established, since the 2022/2023 campaign, a homogeneity bonus to encourage and incentivize producers and their organizations to produce quality.
